AGID Track Record

AGID has extensive experience leading major digital transformation initiatives:

  • SPID: Launched 2016, grown to 30+ million users
  • PagoPA: National payment platform for public administration
  • App IO: Mobile app for accessing government services
  • ANPR: National Resident Registry (Anagrafe Nazionale)

SPID Integration

Building on SPID Foundation

IT-Wallet integrates with SPID (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale), Italy national public digital identity system operational since 2016. SPID provides secure authentication for accessing over 10,000 government and private sector services.

SPID Heritage

  • • Operational since 2016 (8+ years)
  • • 30+ million registered users
  • • 10,000+ integrated services
  • • Government & private sector
  • • Multi-level authentication (LoA 1/2/3)

IT-Wallet Benefits

  • • Massive existing user base
  • • Proven authentication infrastructure
  • • Wide service integration
  • • Established trust framework
  • • smooth user transition

SPID Identity Providers

SPID operates through multiple accredited Identity Providers (IdP), creating competitive ecosystem while maintaining government standards:

  • Multiple Providers: Citizens choose from several accredited SPID identity providers based on preferences
  • Common Standards: All providers meet AGID technical and security requirements ensuring interoperability
  • Competition & Innovation: Provider competition drives UX improvements while maintaining security standards
  • IT-Wallet Integration: Existing SPID credentials activate IT-Wallet, no new registration needed

SPID Levels of Assurance

SPID implements three levels of authentication assurance, allowing services to require appropriate security level:

Level 1 (LoA 1)

Username and password authentication. Suitable for low-risk services.

Level 2 (LoA 2)

Two-factor authentication (password + OTP/SMS). Standard for most government services.

Level 3 (LoA 3)

Hardware security device (smart card, USB token). Required for highest-risk transactions.

IT-Wallet will support high level of assurance (LoA High per eIDAS 2.0), likely mapping to SPID Level 2 or Level 3 depending on transaction requirements.
